## New Lenox, Illinois — Tornado/Outdoor Warning Siren Test Days
**The sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m.**
According to the official Village of New Lenox website, the Illinois Emergency Services and Disaster Act of 1988 specifies that:
> "the testing of disaster warning devices, including outdoor warning sirens, shall be held **only on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 o'clock in the morning** and during disaster training exercises that are specifically and expressly approved in advance by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency."
**Additional details from the Village page:**
- During the monthly test, the ATTENTION/ALERT signal is sounded for **1 minute** (this differs from an actual emergency, when the signal sounds for 3–5 minutes).
- The sirens are designed to be heard **outdoors only** — they have an audible range of roughly 1–2 miles and are not meant to penetrate buildings.
- If you hear a siren during an actual emergency, seek shelter immediately and turn on a radio/TV or NOAA weather radio for information. Do not call 911 just to ask why the sirens are sounding.
**Siren locations in New Lenox** include Village Hall, the water tower at Nelson and Meadow Ridge, Cherry Hill School, Lincoln-Way Central High School, and several other sites across the village and New Lenox Township.
